Our Student-Run Board members recently came together with our executive team and Board of Directors to discuss the current state of the program—and dream big about what’s ahead! We love having the opportunity to hear directly from students and learn from their feedback.
We were also honored to welcome the Ohio Credit Union League as they awarded us First Place for the Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award—a recognition we are incredibly grateful for. We’re beyond excited to see what 2026 has in store!
How the program works
The Student-Run Credit Union operates within local schools, allowing students to open and manage their own savings accounts. Each branch is staffed by student volunteers who process transactions, promote financial literacy, and engage their peers in money management discussions. The program is designed to be both educational and functional, giving students real experience with deposits, withdrawals, and account balancing.
Why it matters
Financial literacy is a critical skill that often gets overlooked in traditional education. By participating in our Student-Run Credit Union, students gain early exposure to responsible financial habits that will benefit them for a lifetime. They learn the importance of saving, setting financial goals, and managing money wisely—all while experiencing the responsibilities of running a Credit Union operation.
