Supporting the Next Generation of Farmers

Supporting the Next Generation of Farmers

In communities rooted deeply in agriculture, supporting young people as they step into farming isn’t just meaningful—it’s essential. At Atomic Credit Union, we’re committed to helping future farmers grow both their livestock and their financial confidence through programs designed specifically for youth involvement in agriculture. One of the opportunities we offer is our Barnyard Buckaroo Program, an initiative created to empower 4-H and Future Farmers of America (FFA) members with the tools they need for success.

Bridging Passion with Practical Support

Raising livestock—whether it’s a calf, pig, or lamb—is more than a hobby for many young people in our region. It’s a hands-on way to learn responsibility, business skills, and the reward that comes with hard work. But these projects come with real costs: feed, veterinary care, fair entry fees, and more. That’s where the Barnyard Buckaroo Program steps in.

This program offers youth members the chance to borrow up to $2,500 at just 1% interest (APR), with no origination or hidden fees, to cover these expenses. What’s more, it gives students real experience with borrowing and repaying money—an invaluable life lesson that builds financial confidence and responsibility early.

Learning Beyond the Field

The value of this program extends far beyond the farm. Participating students don’t just gain financial support—they gain a foundation in financial literacy and money management. By navigating the loan process and understanding repayment, future farmers learn essential skills that will serve them throughout life, whether they pursue careers in agriculture or other fields.

Through initiatives like the Barnyard Buckaroo Program, Atomic Credit Union reinforces its broader commitment to community and lifelong learning, ensuring that young people are supported in every step of their personal and professional development.
