Protect Yourself from Spoofing Scams: What You Need to Know
At Atomic Credit Union, your financial security is our top priority.
Recently, we’ve seen a rise in a dangerous scam that has impacted credit union members and we want to make sure you and your family stay safe.
Scammers are placing fraudulent phone calls that appear to come from our official 800 number. These callers falsely claim to represent Atomic Credit Union and request sensitive card information and online banking credentials, including:
- The last 10 digits of your card number
- Your card's expiration date
- Your card's CVV (3-digit security code)
- Your online banking username
- The online banking 6 digit passcode
Once obtained, this information is being used to carry out large, unauthorized transactions and the fraudster gains access to your accounts.
How to Spot the Scam
Here are key red flags to watch for:
- Unexpected calls about your account: If you weren’t expecting a call, always be cautious.
- Pressure to act quickly: Scammers often create urgency to make you share information without thinking.
- Requests for personal card details: Atomic Credit Union will never ask for your full card number, CVV, or expiration date over the phone.
What to Do If You Receive a Suspicious Call
- Hang up the phone. Don’t give out any information.
- Call us directly to confirm if there’s an actual issue with your account.
- Monitor your accounts through online or mobile banking for any unauthorized transactions.
- Report the call to us right away so we can take steps to protect other members.
Together, We Can Stop Fraud
Fraudsters are clever, but by staying alert and informed, you can outsmart them. Remember: If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts. Protecting your money and your identity is always worth pausing to double-check.
Stay safe, stay informed, and thank you for partnering with us to keep your financial future secure.
